Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all services provided by Katrina’s Designs, including garment alterations, tailoring, fittings, repairs, mending, adjustments and related clothing services.

By leaving garments with us, requesting a quote, approving work, making payment, attending an appointment or using our services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

Katrina’s Designs provides garment alterations, tailoring, fittings, repairs, mending and related clothing services in Victoria, Australia.

2. Quotes and estimates

Any quote or estimate we provide is based on the information available at the time, including the garment condition, requested work, fabric type, construction, fit requirements and any visible issues.

Quotes may change if:

  • additional work is requested;
  • the garment condition is different from what was first presented;
  • hidden construction issues are discovered;
  • the fabric, lining, trims or structure require extra work;
  • the scope of work changes after fitting or consultation.

We will make reasonable efforts to inform you of significant changes before proceeding with additional work.

3. Assessment of garments

Garments are generally required to be brought in person for assessment. This allows us to inspect the garment, understand the requested work and provide more accurate advice.

Photos may be used for general reference or preliminary discussion, but a final quote or confirmation may require an in-person assessment.

4. Approval of work

Work will usually begin once the requested alteration, repair, mending or tailoring work has been discussed and approved by you.

Approval may be given verbally, in writing, by email, by message, in person, by payment, or by leaving the garment with us after the work has been discussed.

It is your responsibility to clearly explain the outcome you want, including fit preferences, length, style, comfort, proportions and any special instructions.

5. Fittings and measurements

Alterations and tailoring work may require one or more fittings.

Measurements and fitting notes are taken to assist with the requested work, but the final result can be affected by garment structure, fabric behaviour, body shape, posture, movement, weight changes, customer preference and the original garment design.

Customers are encouraged to try on garments in store at the time of fitting and collection to help avoid issues and ensure the requested work has been completed correctly.

If you choose not to attend a recommended fitting, or you ask us to proceed without a fitting, the final result may be less accurate.

6. Customer-supplied garments and materials

You are responsible for the condition, quality and suitability of any garments, fabric, buttons, trims, zippers, lining or other materials supplied by you.

We are not responsible for problems caused by pre-existing garment issues, including but not limited to:

  • weak or damaged fabric;
  • worn seams;
  • sun fading;
  • dye instability;
  • shrinkage;
  • fabric distortion;
  • poor original construction;
  • previous alterations;
  • hidden damage;
  • stains, odours or marks;
  • delicate, aged or unstable materials.

We will take reasonable care when handling garments, but some garments carry higher risk due to age, fabric type, construction, embellishments, prior wear or previous alterations.

7. Garment cleanliness

Garments should be provided in a generally clean and hygienic condition.

We may refuse to accept or work on garments that are heavily soiled, unhygienic, unsafe, contaminated, odorous or unsuitable for handling.

We are not responsible for stains, marks, odours, shrinkage, fading or damage that existed before the garment was provided to us.

8. Turnaround times

Our general turnaround time is approximately 3 to 5 business days.

Turnaround times are estimates only and may be affected by workload, fitting requirements, supplier delays, public holidays, staff availability, complexity of work, garment condition or changes to the requested work.

If you need a garment by a specific date, you must tell us before work begins. We will let you know whether the requested timeframe is possible.

9. Urgent work and rush fees

Urgent work may be available depending on our workload and the complexity of the garment.

Urgent work may be completed within the same day to 2 business days where available.

For retail customers, urgent work attracts a rush fee of $15 per garment.

Rush fees do not apply to approved commercial clients unless otherwise agreed.

Acceptance of urgent work is at our discretion.

10. Pricing and payment

Prices depend on the type of garment, complexity of work, fabric, construction, fitting requirements and time required.

For retail customers, payment is generally required on pickup.

For mending and repair jobs, payment is required upfront before work begins.

We do not generally take deposits.

We accept common payment methods including cash, card, bank transfer, Square/EFTPOS and other payment methods approved by us.

Garments may not be released until all outstanding amounts have been paid.

11. Changes and cancellations

If you wish to change or cancel work after approval, you must contact us as soon as possible.

If work has already commenced, you may be required to pay for work completed, materials used, time spent or costs incurred up to the time of cancellation.

Changes requested after work has begun may require additional payment and may extend the completion timeframe.

12. Collection of garments

You will be contacted when your garment is ready for collection, where contact details have been provided.

Please collect garments promptly after completion.

Katrina’s Designs is not responsible for delays caused by customers failing to collect garments, respond to messages or attend fittings.

13. Uncollected garments

Garments that remain uncollected for more than 90 days after completion may be treated as uncollected goods.

Before taking any further action, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you using the contact details provided.

If garments remain uncollected, we may take steps permitted under applicable Victorian laws relating to uncollected goods.

We may charge reasonable storage or handling fees where permitted by law.

We will not dispose of uncollected garments unless permitted by law and after taking any steps required under applicable legislation.

14. Final fit and readjustments

Customers are strongly encouraged to try on garments in store at collection.

If you believe an alteration does not match the agreed work, you must notify us within 7 days of collection so we can inspect the garment and assess the issue.

Where the issue is due to our workmanship or mistake, we will offer a reasonable readjustment at no additional charge.

Garments returned for assessment should be in a generally clean condition.

Additional charges may apply where:

  • the requested change is different from the original instructions;
  • the customer has changed their mind;
  • the garment no longer fits due to body changes;
  • the garment has been altered elsewhere after collection;
  • further work is requested beyond the original scope;
  • the issue is caused by the garment’s original construction, fabric, prior alterations, wear and tear, or customer-supplied materials.

15. Refunds and consumer guarantees

Our services come with rights and guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

If there is a problem with our service, please contact us so we can assess the issue and provide an appropriate remedy where required by law.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include correcting the work, providing another remedy, or refunding part or all of the service fee where required by law.

We are not required to provide a refund simply because you change your mind, choose the wrong garment, change your fit preference after approving the work, fail to attend fittings, or do not follow care instructions, unless required by law.

16. Damage, loss and limitation of liability

We take reasonable care when handling customer garments.

However, to the maximum extent permitted by law, Katrina’s Designs is not liable for loss, damage or issues caused by:

  • pre-existing garment damage or weakness;
  • fabric faults or instability;
  • poor original construction;
  • previous alterations;
  • customer-supplied materials;
  • incorrect or incomplete instructions;
  • normal wear and tear;
  • shrinkage, fading or colour bleeding;
  • actions of third parties;
  • events outside our reasonable control.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our liability will be limited to the extent permitted by law.

Customers are encouraged not to leave irreplaceable, highly sentimental, antique or extremely valuable garments unless the risks have been discussed and accepted.

17. Care after alteration

After collection, you are responsible for following appropriate care instructions for the garment, including washing, dry cleaning, steaming, ironing and storage.

Some altered garments may require special care depending on fabric, construction, trims or finishes.

We are not responsible for damage caused by incorrect washing, cleaning, drying, ironing, steaming, storage or handling after collection.

18. Photos and records

We may take photos of garments, fittings, alteration details or before-and-after work for internal reference, quality control, record keeping or communication about the job.

We will not use identifiable customer images for public marketing without consent.

Photos of garments that do not identify a customer may be used for internal training, work reference, business records or general promotional purposes.

19. Commercial clients

These Terms & Conditions apply to both retail customers and commercial clients unless a separate written agreement applies.

Commercial clients may include retail stores, corporate clients, uniform clients, fashion businesses, hospitality clients, trade clients and other business customers.

Commercial clients are generally invoiced once per month unless otherwise agreed.

Rush fees do not apply to approved commercial clients unless otherwise agreed.

For commercial clients, additional terms may apply, including separate pricing, invoicing, turnaround times, account terms, confidentiality requirements and service arrangements.

Where there is a separate written agreement between Katrina’s Designs and a commercial client, that agreement will apply to the extent of any inconsistency with these Terms & Conditions.

20. Confidentiality

We respect the confidentiality of our customers and commercial clients.

We do not publicly disclose private customer details, commercial pricing, service arrangements, measurements, order details or confidential project information unless authorised or required by law.

21. Refusal of service

We may refuse service where reasonable, including where:

  • the requested work is not suitable or possible;
  • the garment condition creates unacceptable risk;
  • the timeframe is not achievable;
  • the garment is not in a clean or safe condition;
  • the customer behaves aggressively, abusively or inappropriately;
  • payment is outstanding;
  • the request is outside our service scope.
